IRB Application: Other Required Committee Review/Approvals

Section 7
FORM II.   Medical Center/College of Medicine (for involvement of Medical Center students and/or College of Medicine students as research subjects)

Prior to conducting any research involving UK Medical Center residents/house officers as subjects, the investigator must obtain the approval of the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Committee. This can be accomplished by contacting the GME Office. Staff there will place the proposal on the agenda for the next meeting of the GME committee.

Prior to conducting any research involving University of Kentucky College of Medicine students as subjects, the investigator must obtain the approval of the Office of Medical Education by contacting the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.

If you are proposing research involving Chandler Medical Center residents/house officers or College of Medicine students as subjects, please mark the "College of Medicine Students" selection on the General Information Sheet [Section 1, Form A].

Note: An underlying principle of the regulations governing use of human subjects in research is that the subject's participation is voluntary and based upon full and accurate information. The student-teacher relationship raises the issue of voluntary participation. The Office of Research Integrity (ORI) has prepared guidance for enrolling University students as research subjects. To obtain a copy of the guidance, visit ORI's web page: http://www.research.uky.edu/ori/human/guidance.htm#student or contact ORI at 859-257-9428.
