Researchers at UK's Tobacco and Health Research Institute (THRI) are studying ways to use tobacco as a "factory" to produces everything from antibiotics to sugars to industrial enzymes--even anticancer and AIDS-fighting compounds.
"Because its genes and biology are so easily manipulated, tobacco is probably the best white rat in the plant kingdon," says Glenn Collins, UK professor of agronomy.
