Required Application Materials

In addition to the completed application form, the following materials are also required:

Official transcripts - We require transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you have attended (University of Kentucky graduates are not required to submit UK transcripts). One set of transcripts should be sent to The Graduate School admissions officer for your program and a second set of transcripts sent to the Director of Graduate Studies for your program. Transcripts should be sent directly from each college or university attended. An overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.75 and 3.00 on all graduate work is required of degree-seeking students. Individual programs may have higher requirements.

Official GRE scores - These scores should be sent directly from Educational Testing Service (ETS). The Institution Code for UK Graduate School is R1837. Please note that some programs require official GMAT scores.

Official TOEFL or IELTS scores - All applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit one of these scores directly from the testing service. The minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 550 (paper-based) 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet-based). The minimum IELTS score is 6.5.

The application fee - Effective July 1, 2008, the application fee for domestic applicants is $50.00; for international applicants the fee is $65.00. Please note that applications cannot be processed without submission of the Application Fee.

NOTE: Many graduate programs at the University of Kentucky require the completion of secondary (program-specific) application forms and/or the submission of additional supporting documents such as letters of recommendation. These items should be sent directly to the Director of Graduate Studies for the program of interest. For further information on program-specific requirements, see Graduate Degree Programs.

Application Deadlines

Domestic applications - (including all transcripts and official scores) must be received by the Graduate School no later than one month prior to the start of the term the applicant intends to begin graduate work. Please refer to the Academic Calendar for typical semester starting dates. Note that some programs have earlier deadlines (see Application Receipt Dates ).

International applications - must be received by the Graduate School by the following deadlines.

Admissions Procedure

Once all of the required materials have been received by The Graduate School, an Admissions Officer will review your application to make certain the minimum requirements for admission have been satisfied. Application materials will then be sent to your designated degree program for final recommendation. Applicants will be notified in writing when a decision has been made.
