Fellowships
2008-2009
A fellowship is available for graduate or professional (law, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy) study at the University of Kentucky for an entering student who is a graduate of one of the 20 four-year independent colleges and universities in the Commonwealth affiliated with the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities. The one-year fellowship is in the amount of $15,000. It also carries a tuition scholarship and student health insurance for student in graduate school programs. The awards, named to honor Joan Cralle Day, are endowed by a gift from the Cralle Foundation. Cralle Fellowships are 12-month awards.
CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY
- Candidates must be applying to or enrolling in their first year of study in a graduate or professional program at UK in the 2008 Fall Semester.
- Candidates must be seniors (having graduated at the end of the 2007 Fall Semester, or expecting to graduate at the end of the 2008 Spring Semester or a 2008 summer session) at their baccalaureate-granting independent college or university.
- The independent institutions are: Alice Lloyd College, Asbury College, Bellarmine University, Berea College, Brescia University, Campbellsville University, Centre College, Cumberland College, Georgetown College, Kentucky Christian College, Kentucky Wesleyan College, Lindsey Wilson College, Mid-Continent University, Midway College, Pikeville College, Spalding University, St. Catharine College, Thomas More College, Transylvania University, and Union College.
- Graduate student candidates must be nominated by the chief academic officer of the baccalaureate-granting independent institution and by the UK program's director of graduate studies. Students applying to either master's or doctoral programs are eligible.
- Candidates entering a professional school must be nominated by the chief academic officer of the baccalaureate-granting independent institution and an Associate Dean of the College of Law , College of Medicine , College of Dentistry , or College of Pharmacy.
- Candidates must have an undergraduate grade point average of 3.2 or above.
NOMINATION PROCESS
In the following order, the nomination must include:
- A completed fellowship nomination form specific to the Cralle Fellowship;
- A letter of nomination from the chief academic officer of the candidate's baccalaureate institution, including date all baccalaureate degree requirements are expected to be completed. If possible, nominators are requested to include class rank information in their nomination letters. Each baccalaureate institution may nominate no more than one graduate student and one professional student each year. The nomination packet should be sent to the UK Graduate School Funding Office, 203 Gillis Building, Lexington , KY 40506-0033.
- A letter of nomination from the UK program's director of graduate studies, or the professional program's associate dean, will be solicited by the Graduate School .
- Photocopies of transcripts from all schools attended, both undergraduate and graduate;
- A photocopy of GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, PCAT or DAT scores, as appropriate;
- A photocopy of application for admission to UK;
- A photocopy of UK acceptance (if available);
- Letters of recommendation from two academic references;
- Candidate's one-page personal statement.
- Resume or curriculum vitae.
DUE DATE FOR NOMINATIONS
Nominations from the baccalaureate institution, with all appropriate documentation (seven complete sets), must reach the Graduate School Funding Office, 203 Gillis Building, no later than Monday, February 25, 2008.
