Graduate Fellowships
for Selected Areas
2008-2009

Awards of $16,000 plus tuition and student health insurance are available for women applicants in program areas in which 30 percent or fewer doctorates have been awarded to women, according to National Research Council data. Eligible programs are Agricultural Economics, Biomedical Engineering, Biosystems & Agricultural Engineering, Computer Science, Crop Science, Economics, all College of Engineering programs, Entomology, Geology, Mathematics, Physics & Astronomy, Radiation Science, and Soil Science. Fellowships are 12-month awards.
CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY
- Candidates must be applying for or enrolling in their first term of study in one of the above-named programs in a 2008 summer session or the 2008 Fall Semester. Candidates cannot be currently enrolled in one UK graduate program with the intent of entering a new program and holding simultaneous enrollment in both.
- Candidates must have an undergraduate grade point average of 3.2 or above.
- Candidates must have a graduate grade point average of 3.5 or above on any previous graduate work.
- Candidates must have achieved the 81 st percentile or higher on one portion of the GRE or GMAT.
- New students applying to a program whose most recent degree is from a college or university outside the U.S. are NOT eligible.
NOMINATION PROCESS
Candidates must be nominated by the program's director of graduate studies. In the following order, nomination packets must include six complete sets of:
- A completed fellowship nomination form specific to the Graduate Fellowships for Selected Areas;
- A letter of nomination from the director of graduate studies;
- Two letters of recommendation from academic or professional references;
- Photocopies of transcripts from all schools attended, both undergraduate and graduate;
- Photocopy of official GRE or GMAT scores.
SELECTION PROCESS
Ranking of the candidates and alternates for these fellowships will be determined on the basis of the criteria set forth above. Faculty representatives of the standing fellowship panels will advise the dean on recommended recipients and alternates.
DUE DATE FOR NOMINATIONS
Nominations with all appropriate documentation (six complete sets) must reach the Graduate School Funding Office, 203 Gillis Building, no later than Monday, February 18, 2008.
