University of Kentucky faculty and staff attracted a record $131,495,395 in research contracts, grants, and gifts from sources outside the university during FY 1998 – a 4.7 percent increase over the previous fiscal year's extramural funding. Of this total  $127,949,685 was distributed through the University of Kentucky Research Foundation (UKRF) and $3,545,710 was received through the UK Office of Development. The record $131 million in extramural research funding marks the fifth consecutive year that UK has topped $100 million. Nearly $73 million was received from federal sources.
